His private secretary Fr John McGee, now the Bishop of Cloyne, is standing to the left of shot. The Pope celebrated an open-air Mass for the sick during his Knock visit - he is standing by the altar as he makes his address.
Pope John Paul II spent three days in Ireland from 29 September to 1 October 1979.
