An RTE film crew at work on Inishmore in the Aran Islands, off the coast of County Galway in July 1969. Lighting cameraman Stuart Hetherington is standing in the left foreground. Standing on the right, smiling to camera, is producer/director Pat Baker. A film camera is set up between the two. The remainder of the crew (five in total) are at work in the background, running a length of cable up a rockface.
This still was taken during the filming of 'Boy on an Island: the stories of Liam O'Flaherty' which was shown by RTE as part of its educational programming 'Telefis Scoile'. It was an impressionistic film about what the island would have looked like to a boy of 12 and the impact it had on O'Flaherty's writing. 'Boy on an Island' was produced/directed by Pat Baker; it was first broadcast on 3 November 1969.
'Telefis Scoile' comprised several different series of programmes on subjects studied by secondary school students at Junior (Intermediate/Junior Certificate) and Senior (Leaving Certificate) levels. It was initiated by RTE in 1964 in association with the Department of Education.
