Programme   Anthology: Alas Those Chimes
Programme type
Description   Overhead shot of four hundred schoolchildren assembled in Holy Trinity Cathedral, Waterford in 1969. They were participating in the filming of 'Alas Those Chimes', a documentary celebrating the music of the composer William Vincent Wallace which was filmed in Holy Trinity Cathedral in Waterford and in other parts of the county. The children were singing the music of Wallace. In this shot they are standing in the choir stalls in front of the altar which is visible in the background - it has pillars on either side of it. There is a low carved wooden railing in front of them and a carved screen to the left of shot. This shot is taken from the side - it may have been taken from the pulpit which is situated to the right though not visible in this shot.

Norris Davidson scripted and directed this programme. It was broadcast on RTE television as part of the 'Anthology' series of documentaries on 22 December 1969. Davidson wrote an article for the RTE Guide on the making of this film - it was published in the edition of 19 December 1969.
