|Programme||Anthology: Alas Those Chimes|
Conductor Stanley Bowyer and some of the four hundred schoolchildren who sang in the documentary 'Alas Those Chimes', a programme celebrating the music of the composer William Vincent Wallace which was filmed in Holy Trinity Cathedral in Waterford and in other parts of the county. This shot was taken in the cathedral. Bowyer is standing with his back to camera, conducting the schoolchildren (about one hundred of them) who are standing in rows below and in front of him, singing. The children are standing in front of the altar. Both children and altar are rather blurred, but six very tall candleholders can be made out on either side of a cross on the altar.
Norris Davidson scripted and directed this programme. It was broadcast on RTE television as part of the 'Anthology' series of documentaries on 22 December 1969. Davidson wrote an article for the RTE Guide on the making of this film - it was published in the edition of 19 December 1969.
