A high shot of the parade ring at the Curragh Racecourse, County Kildare, just prior to the start of the Budweiser Irish Derby on 27 June 1987. Horses, together with their jockeys, owners, trainers, etc. can be seen milling around a green area at the centre of the parade ring. Hundreds of spectators are also visible. An RTE cameraman is positioned on a platform to the right of shot.
RTE television broadcast live coverage of the 1987 Budweiser Derby as part of its regular Saturday afternoon sports programme 'Sports Stadium'. That year's race was won by the horse Sir Harry Lewis.
