Crosbie, Paddy (1913 - 1982)
Teacher and broadcaster Paddy Crosbie with Peter McArdle, holding an accordion, and Marie McArdle on the Telefís Éireann (now RTÉ Television) programme 'School Around the Corner' during programme recording in early 1963. This edition of the show came from Dundalk, County Louth, and was broadcast on 24 February 1963; the RTV Guide published a preview of it on 22 February 1963.
In addition to presenting the show, Paddy Crosbie was the originator and writer of 'School Around the Corner'. The show was first broadcast by Radio Éireann in 1954, and ran continuously until 1961 when it was transferred to Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television). It was the first Telefís Éireann programme to be pre-recorded in 1961; the first episode was broadcast on 2 January 1962. The programme continued until 1966 on RTÉ Television before returning to RTÉ Radio for another year. It was again revived on radio in 1973 and ran on RTÉ Television from 1990-1994. An RTÉ Guide article outlining the programme's history was published on 1 June 1973.
