de Valera, Éamon (1882 - 1975)
Soldiers lay wreaths on the grave of Roger Casement in Dublin's Glasnevin Cemetery, during his re-interment there on 1 March 1965. President Eamon de Valera is to the right of the shot.
Roger Casement was given a state funeral and was buried with full military honours in the Republican plot in Glasnevin Cemetery. Although a British diplomat, Casement joined the Irish Volunteers in 1912 and attempted to secure German aid for Irish independence. He was hanged in Pentonville Prison, London in 1916, for treason against the crown.
