Kelly, Eamon (1914 - 2001)
A scene from the RTÉ Television production of Tom Murphy's play 'Brigit', during filming in Studio 1 in June 1987. Irish actor and storyteller Eamon Kelly as Seamus, is leaning down to speak to Róisín Macken, who played Seamus's grand-daughter Dolly. A block of wood together with a saw, chisels and other tools are on a workbench in the foreground.
'Brigit' was televised by RTÉ on 27 January 1988. Set in an Irish rural community, Kelly played a man in dispute with the local priest, who is charged with carving a replacement statue of St Brigit for the local convent. The producer/director was Noel Ó Briain. The RTÉ Guide published an article on this play in its edition of 22 January 1988; stills from this shoot were used to illustrate that article. This production won first prize in the TV Drama Category at the Pan Celtic Film and Television Festival in 1988.
