| Description |
Father Albert Bibby (left) and Father Dominic O'Connor both men are wearing priests habits, circa 1920. In the background is a church, most likely the Capuchin friary and church on Church Street in Dublin. To the left of shot is a woman holding an umbrella with a young boy. This image is possibly linked to the arrest of both men in the winter of 1920 - during the Irish War of Independence. It probably dates from after their release. The two priests were exiled to California by the Capuchin Order, for supporting the Anti-Treaty side in the early 1920s. Father Albert died in Santa Inez, California, February 1925 and Father Dominic died there in 1935. Their remains were reburied in the Capuchin Cemetery, Rochestown, Cork, June 1958. |
