Description |
The wreckage of Hawker's plane in Lough Shinny Harbour, Dublin, 28 August 1913. Three rowboats have sailed out to the wreckage. George Harry Hawker crashed the Sopwith waterplane whilst trying to fly around the Irish coast, during a waterplane race. The race was funded by the 'Daily Mail' newspaper. The 'Daily Mail' gave Hawker £1,000 as a consolation prize. |
