Caption | The grave of Ellen Organ in County Cork (circa 1910) | |
Description |
The grave of Ellen Organ, known as Little Nellie of Holy God in the cemetery adjacent to the Good Shepherd Convent in Sunday's Well in Cork, circa 1910. Little Nellie of Holy God held strong religious beliefs and is sometimes referred to as the unofficial patron saint of Cork. Little Nellie was born in Waterford in August 1903 and died of tuberculosis in the Good Shepherd Convent infirmary on 2 February 1908. Originally buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery in Cork, a year after Nellie's death her body was exhumed and re-interred in the Good Shepherd Convent. At the time it was claimed that when Nellie's coffin was opened, her body was perfectly preserved. |
