JB Malone (or John Malone), presenter of the RTÉ Television nature programme 'By Meadow and Mountain' (later re-named 'Mountain and Meadow'), in 1962. He is looking to the right of shot and has a sack or satchel of some kind slung on his left shoulder. He is wearing glasses and a cap. Some shrubbery is visible in the background. 'By Meadow and Mountain' was a weekly fifteen minute outside broadcast which followed the route of a walk somewhere in Ireland, with Malone providing the commentary. It was first broadcast on 4 July 1962 and was produced by James Plunkett. A short feature on the series appeared in the RTV Guide of 29 June 1962. JB Malone also wrote about his walks for the 'Evening Herald' newspaper. He played a central role in establishing the Wicklow Way walking trail. |
