Description |
High-angle shot of the 'School Around the Corner' Easter Party, which was broadcast by Telefís Éireann on Easter Sunday 14 April 1963. Two men are distributing balloons from a large crate to the children who are gathered around them; more of the children are seated at long tables in the background. This party was held in RTÉ's Donnybrook studios for the 172 children from all over Ireland who were interviewed on the programme during the year. 'School Around the Corner' was presented by Paddy Crosbie and produced by the writer James Plunkett. In addition to presenting the show, Paddy Crosbie was the originator and writer of 'School Around the Corner'. The show was first broadcast by Radio Éireann in 1954, and ran continuously until 1961 when it was transferred to Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television). It was the first Telefís Éireann programme to be pre-recorded in 1961; the first episode was broadcast on 2 January 1962. The programme continued until 1966 on RTÉ Television before returning to RTÉ Radio for another year. It was again revived on radio in 1973 and ran on RTÉ Television from 1990-1994. An RTÉ Guide article outlining the programme's history was published on 1 June 1973. |
