Description |
Teacher and broadcaster Paddy Crosbie with a nurse and young patient (five-year-old PJ Brophy) in St Mary's Hospital, Cappagh, for a special edition of 'School Around the Corner' broadcast by Telefís Éireann on Christmas Day 1962. Crosbie is feeding trifle to PJ, who is sitting up in bed, as the nurse looks on. Other boys can be seen in the background. James Plunkett, the producer of 'School Around the Corner', wrote an article about this outside broadcast for the RTV Guide of 21 December 1962. In addition to presenting the show, Paddy Crosbie was the originator and writer of 'School Around the Corner'. The show was first broadcast by Radio Éireann in 1954, and ran continuously until 1961 when it was transferred to Telefís Éireann (RTÉ Television). It was the first Telefís Éireann programme to be pre-recorded in 1961; the first episode was broadcast on 2 January 1962. The programme continued until 1966 on RTÉ Television before returning to RTÉ Radio for another year. It was again revived on radio in 1973 and ran on RTÉ Television from 1990-1994. An RTÉ Guide article outlining the programme's history was published on 1 June 1973. |
