Description |
Former President of Ireland (1990-97) Mary Robinson, with her husband Nick Robinson, in the kitchen of Áras an Uachtaráin in August 1997. RTÉ News reporter Charlie Bird was at the Áras to interview Mary Robinson for a special news programme entitled 'Mary Robinson Leaves the Áras'. This was broadcast on 12 September 1997, the day Robinson left the Áras. Mary Robinson took up the position of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in 1997 before resigning in 2002. She first rose to prominence as an academic, barrister, campaigner and member of the Irish senate (1969-1989). |
