Description |
Traffic on Lower O'Connell Street in Dublin's city centre, on 22 August 1968. Two female pedestrians are jaywalking in the foreground. This shot was taken near Bachelor's Walk, looking north towards the junction with Middle Abbey Street. The GPO is just visible in the left background and the O'Connell monument is partly visible in the right foreground. The following businesses can be seen on the left of shot; an Irish Sweeps ticket office (the sign is partly obscured by a lamppost), 'Fortes Rainbow Café' (now 'Burger King'), the 'Green Rooster' restaurant, 'Monaco', and 'Playland'. A sign for 'Lemon's Pure Sweets' can be seen over the Confectionary Hall building and a second sign for Texaco petrol - 'Travel the Texaco Way' is visible on the building at the corner of Middle Abbey Street. This still was taken for use in RTE television's current affairs programme '7 Days'. |
