Cahill sang 'Back to the Hills' and 'Canavaun' during the contest, which selected a song to represent Ireland at that year's Eurovision Song Contest. That year's National Song Contest featured five singers performing nine songs; the public decided the result by postal vote. RTÉ Radio also broadcast the competing songs on 11 and 13 February 1967.
