Description   The Hayes family outside Tralee Courthouse, County Kerry during the Kerry Babies Tribunal, in February 1985. From left to right; siblings Kathleen, Ned, Joanne, Mike and Mrs Mary Hayes (mother of these four). Joanne is holding a red rose wrapped in cellophane in her hand. This is a half-length shot of all five. All are smiling apart from Mike Hayes.

The Kerry Babies Tribunal was established to enquire into the events surrounding Joanne Hayes's confession to the murder of a baby found on Cahirciveen beach. A second dead baby was subsequently found on the Hayes family farm in Abbeydorney, County Kerry and eventually all charges against Joanne Hayes and her family were dropped. The tribunal set out to enquire into the circumstances around Joanne Hayes's confession.
