Three-quarter length portrait shot of German sculptor Imogen Stuart, taken in her basement studio under her home in Sandycove, Co Dublin in 1968. This image shows Stuart sitting on a chair, turned to the left of shot and looking at the camera. Some of her carvings are visible in the background. Stuart's Stations of the Cross carvings featured in a RTE programme shown on Good Friday, 12 April 1968, entitled 'The Stations of the Cross'. It was conducted by Fr Thomas Finnegan, Summerhill College, Sligo. An article on Stuart entitled 'Imogenation' with accompanying photographs by Roy Bedell appeared in the same edition of the Guide. Imogen Stuart was born in Berlin and studied under German sculptor Hitzberger before moving to Ireland in 1951. She is best known for such large public sculptures as Pangur Bán, located in UCD, Fiddler of Dooney at Stillorgan Shopping centre, Dublin and religious sculptures such as Monument to John Paul II in Maynooth College. RTE television's Religious Affairs programme 'Would You Believe' broadcast a special programme on Imogen Stuart on 6 June 2000, with Eleanor Cunney producing. |
