Description |
A scene from the RTÉ/FR3 Television drama 'The Year of the French', during filming in June 1981. French actor Jacques Zabor (second left, as General Sarrizan), British actor Philip Hurdwood as John Moore (third left) and Jean Claude Drouot (centre, as General Humbert) are all visible in this shot. All three are seated around a table with four other actors, also dressed as French soldiers. This scene was filmed in Wilson's Hospital, Mullingar in County Westmeath. 'The Year of the French' was a six-part drama based on the events of 1798. It was a co-production with the French television station FR 3, in association with Britain's Channel 4, and was adapted by Eugene McCabe from the novel by Thomas Flanagan. It featured 120 Irish, French and English actors as well as hundreds more extras. Michael Garvey was the director. The first episode was broadcast on 18 November 1982; the RTÉ Guide featured an extensive article on the series in its edition of 12 November 1982. |
