Description |
A view of Brian Boru Bridge in Cork city centre, in October 1979. This bridge spans the north channel of the River Lee and connects Brian Boru Street on the north with Clontarf Street on the south. Several cars are going over the bridge. This still was taken from Clontarf Street. At one time Brian Boru Bridge could be raised - the structures and mechanisms required to do this, including a wooden structure where the bridge operator sat, are clearly visible in this shot. Trains also crossed this bridge - a track can just be seen on the left of shot. Several stills from this shoot were used in an RTE Guide article about the 21st anniversary of Cork Local Radio, published on 16 November 1979. The station came on the air in June 1958. RTE Radio 1 broadcast a night of special programmes on 23 November 1979 to mark this anniversary. |
