| Description |
An interior view of RTE Radio's medium wave transmitter, at McKee Barracks in Dublin's Phoenix Park, in September 1980. The inside of a piece of technical equipment can be seen. 2RN, as RTE Radio was then called, began transmitting from McKee Barracks on 1 January 1926. The transmitter was a 1.5 KW Marconi Q type, broadcasting on 390 meters. This station ceased transmission on 15 October 1980, and moved to a new location at Thorndale, Beaumont on the north side of Dublin. TJ Murphy, RTE's then Director of Engineering, wrote about the McKee transmitter for the RTE Guide of 10 October 1980. A still from this shoot was used to illustrate that article. |
