Description |
Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht Michael D Higgins, turns the sod for Teilifís na Gaeilge (now TG4), in Baile na hAbhann, Connemara, County Galway on 12 January 1996. This spot marked the site where construction work on the headquarters for the Irish language station began. From left to right; Ceannasaí of TnaG and current Director-General of RTÉ Cathal Goan, RTÉ's then Director-General Joe Barry, Michael D Higgins, former Assistant Director-General Bob Gahan and Chairman of Comhairle Theilifís na Gaeilge Brian MacAongusa. RTÉ's staff magazine 'Access' featured a brief article about this ceremony in its issue of 7 March 1996. Teilifís na Gaeilge was officially launched on 31 October 1996. |
