RTÉ Television producer Tom McGrath, on the set of the 1971 National Song Contest in Studio 1 in February of that year. He is smoking a pipe. The winner of the National Song Contest went on to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest. RTÉ Television broadcast the National Song Contest on 28 February 1971 with Tom McGrath producing. Full details on all of the contestants appeared in the RTÉ Guide of 26 February 1971. Tom McGrath was a former Head of Light Entertainment at RTÉ. He pioneered 'The Late Late Show' and presided over Ireland's first involvement in the Eurovision Song Contest. |
