| Description | A view of storage containers in the Asahi chemical/textile plant near Killala, County Mayo in January 1978. This factory manufactured synthetic fibres. It opened in 1978 and closed in 1997 with the loss of 315 jobs. This shoot took place during the filming of the RTÉ Television documentary series 'Ireland Tomorrow'. The episode featuring Asahi, entitled 'It Looked Like Something Big', was broadcast on 12 June 1978. | |
