| Description |
Students assemble in the schoolyard in a scene from the RTÉ Television drama series 'The Spike', during filming in Ringsend, Dublin city, in February 1977. Standing on the left of shot, from left to right, are; Geoffrey Golden as Jerome O'Mahony, Jimmy Greeley as an Irish army officer and Robert Carrickford as the Parliamentary Secretary. 'The Spike', a 10-part drama series written by Patrick Gilligan, was set in a co-educational, post-primary school in a working class area of an Irish town. The first episode was broadcast on 26 January 1978. Noel O Briain was the series producer. Only 5 episodes of 'The Spike' were ever shown by RTÉ, after massive controversy erupted over a nude scene in which a woman modelled for an art class. The RTÉ Guide of 20 January 1978 published a three-page article about the series. |
