| Description |
Irish snooker player Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins in a shot taken to publicise RTÉ Television's 'Snooker: Carlsberg Challenge', in Studio 6 in early September 1985. He is preparing to pot a red ball. This was the second year of the Carlsberg Challenge, a three-day championship which featured four leading snooker players competing against one another for a prize of £36,000 sterling. The matches were broadcast live on RTÉ Television on 6, 7 and 8 September 1985. The RTÉ Guide of 30 August 1985 published a two-page feature on the competition. Belfast-born Alex Higgins won the World Snooker Championship in 1972 on his first attempt. He won again in 1982. He got his nickname from his hurried, flamboyant playing style. |
