Broadcaster Ronan Collins introduces a band on a stage outside Dublin's Mansion House, during RTÉ Television coverage of the 1989 People in Need Telethon on 21 April that year. The Mansion House was the venue where the amounts raised over the course of the evening's events were collated. Generally held every two years, the Telethon is a charity fund-raiser. The 1989 Telethon raised approximately £2.3 million. The RTÉ Guide previewed the show in its issue of 21 April 1989, while the RTÉ staff magazine 'Access' published a report on the day's activities on 11 May 1989. |
