Violinist Jack Cheatle, leader of the Radio Éireann Light Orchestra (RÉLO), in a promotional shot taken for use in the RTV (RTÉ) Guide in 1964. A similar image to this was published in the Guide on 26 June 1964 to publicise the appearance of Jack Cheatle's Salon Orchestra on a repeat of Radio Éireann's 'Melody for You' programme on 3 July. The RÉLO was founded in 1948; it later became the RTÉ Light Orchestra and finally the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Jack Cheatle was leader of the RÉLO at its formation. |
