Michael Styer, Director of Programmes at Maryland Public Television, holds the Silver Harp he won at the 19th Golden Harp Festival awards, during the presentation ceremony in the Great Southern Hotel, Galway city, on 19 June 1986. Articles on the 1986 festival were published in the RTÉ staff magazine, 'Access', on 26 June and 24 July 1986. The aim of the Golden Harp Festival was to promote international exchanges of folk music and folklore programmes and to encourage interest in traditional cultures among the nations represented through the associated competition. It was organised by RTÉ under the auspices of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union). |
