Description |
Rory O'Connor (second left, holding cigarette), then Managing Editor of RTÉ Television News, with RTÉ News reporters outside Leinster House, Dublin, during an RTÉ strike in January/February 1992. Standing in front of him, from left to right, are; Rodney Rice, Dónal O'Kelly (both with backs to camera), Charlie Bird and Sean O'Rourke (partly obscured). Around 1600 RTÉ staff members from three unions (SIPTU, NUJ and ETU) had gone on strike over staffing levels at the station. The dispute began on 21 January after two-person camera crews were introduced without the agreement of SIPTU; it ended on 17 February 1992 after four weeks of industrial action. The RTÉ staff magazine 'Access' published an extensive article on the dispute and its resolution in March 1992. |
