Mary McAleese delivers a speech at her inauguration as President of Ireland, in St Patrick's Hall, Dublin Castle on 11 November 1997. Several members of the cabinet, judiciary and former Taoisigh and Presidents are seated in rows behind her. Members of the army band are partly visible on the balcony overhead. This shot was taken at a high angle, possibly from the balcony on the other end of the hall. Some of the guests who attended the ceremony are visible in the foreground, seated in rows on opposite sides of the hall. RTÉ Television broadcast the McAleese inauguration live. |
