Description |
Children playing among the ruins of buildings on Waterford Street, Dublin city, in 1952 or 1953. The rear of tenement buildings on Sean MacDermott Street can be seen in the left background (note the scaffolding on one of them). Waterford Street ran from Marlborough Street to Lower Gardiner Street. It was originally called Upper Mecklenburgh Street and was renamed Upper Tyrone Street before finally becoming Waterford Street. The notorious red light district, Monto, was based mainly in Mecklenburgh Street. |
